Project on Women Entrepreneurship

The Asia Foundation and the U.S. Department of State announced a competition to support possible focus areas identified during the South Asia Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium (SAWES) like Access to cross border markets and Capacity-building opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs.

CEDI proposed to SAWES, a project on Business and Management Capacity Development of Rural Women Entrepreneurs of India and Sri Lanka by the ASIA foundation. Sri Lanka was chosen as our cross border partner to mainly help the Women in War affected zones (Northern and southern Province) of Sri Lanka. Hence, University of Jaffna and South Eastern University of Sri Lanka were chosen as Partners. Our Network partner is Women Entrepreneurs' Association of Tamil Nadu (WEAT). The total funding from the AISA foundation is US $ 55,000 for a project duration of 1 Year.

Awareness Conference at India

The project was inaugurated on 12th September 2014 at Trichy with an Awareness conference on Women Entrepreneurship. More than 200 Women entrepreneurs and members of SHG's participated in the programme. Resource persons from Peiryar TBI, Indian Overseas Bank, State Bank of India, Rotary club and Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation interacted with the participants.

Awareness Conferences at Sri Lanka

As a part of this project, a 1 day Awareness conference on Women Entrepreneurship Developmentwas organized at South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Oulvil, Sri Lanka on 18th November 2014. More than 200 Women entrepreneurs, members of Self Help Groups and students participated in the programme. The programme had Indian Resource persons from, National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirappalli, and Sri Lankan Resource Persons from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Habib Bank Ltd, Nukemi NN Ltd and Global Knowledge Pvt Ltd.

More than 200 Women entrepreneurs, members of Self Help Groups and students participated in the programme. The programme had Indian Resource persons from, National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirappalli, and Sri Lankan Resource Persons from University of Jaffna and other organization of repute.

EDP at India

A 6 days Entrepreneurship Development Programme was held from 15th – 20th December 2015 for more than 90 women entrepreneurs. The training Module included interactions with Experts in Women entrepreneurship development, Successful women entrepreneurs, domain Experts, Group activities and industrial visits. About 70 women Entrepreneurs were selected for the mentoring programme based on the need and commitment to go through the programme.

FDP at Sri Lanka

A 3- day Faculty Development programme Entrepreneurship Development was organized in South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Oulvil, Sri Lanka on26,27 & 28 February 2015. A total of 28 Faculty Members from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Eastern University of Sri Lanka and University of Jaffna participated in the programme. The programme had Indian Resource persons from Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDII) – Ahmedabad, National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirappalli, Bharathidasan University-Trichy, and Peiryar Technology Business incubator- Thanjavur and Sri Lankan Resource Persons from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, University of Jaffna and Habib Bank-Sri Lanka

EDP at SEUSL Sri Lanka

A 6 day Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Women Entrepreneurship Development was organized at South Eastern University of Sri Lanka(SEUSL), Oulvil, Sri Lanka on 23rd – 28th March 2015. More than 60 Women entrepreneurs doing various small scale businesses participated in the programme. The programme had Indian Resource persons from National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirappalli, Bharathidasan University-Trichy, and Peiryar Technology Business incubator- Thanjavur and Sri Lankan Resource Persons from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Habib Bank Ltd, Sri Lanka Advanced Technical Institute and successful Sri Lankan Women entrepreneurs.

EDP at Jaffna Sri Lanka

A 6 day Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Women Entrepreneurship Development was organized at University of Jaffna from 16-18 & 20-22 April 2015. More than 40 Women entrepreneurs doing various small scale businesses participated in the programme. The programme had Indian Resource persons from, National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirappalli, and Sri Lankan Resource Persons from University of Jaffna, Handicraft Society, Women Development Society, Jaffna, SME manager Bank of Ceylon , Jaffna, SME, Manager, Hatton National Bank, Jaffna and University of Colombo.

Mentoring Programme

A Mentoring Programme is designed to address to the technical and business needs of more than 60 women entrepreneurs identified through an Entrepreneurship development programme organized during December 2014. These women entrepreneurs are mainly involved in producing/manufacturing garments, food items, personal care products, heavy engineering materials, fancy jewellery, handicrafts, household items, etc. The mentoring support would include areas including Marketing/business development, financial management, quality management, distribution, etc. over a period of 10 months. This is being carried out by Experts working in the field of Women Entrepreneurship and faculty of NIT- Trichy.

The weekly Mentoring Meetings were organized to have more clarity on the requirements of the entrepreneurs. It included group activity and case by case analysis. This was done by Faculty from NITT and Bharathidasan University. The 69 women entrepreneurs selected for mentoring were divided into 7 groups and each group has a Faculty Mentor from NITT and an external Mentor to guide them. The Mentors will the source of point of contact for the women entrepreneurs for any Technical and Business needs. The mentors may accompany the Women entrepreneurs in case of meeting a high value client, marketing meeting and field visits.
